Two Sri Lankans dead and one injured after a fatal collision in Peterborough, Canada

Two individuals dead after a fatal collision on Highway 7 in Havelock-Belmont-Methuen Township, east of Peterborough.

The head-on collision occurred Saturday (04) morning between a westbound tractor-trailer and an eastbound pickup truck. Emergency crews responded to the collision around 9 a.m. in an area just east of the village of Havelock.

According to the Peterborough County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) reports, two individuals, identified as Mohsin from Bangladesh and a Sri Lankan from Gelioya identified as Hassan (24), were pronounced dead on the scene of the fatal collision between a Ford Raptor f150 they were travelling on and a transport truck.

A third individual, Amaan (23), another Sri Lankan from Gampola, the deceased’s friend, was admitted to the ICU in a Toronto-area hospital with life-threatening injuries and is currently receiving treatment.

The driver of the transport truck was not injured. No other injuries were reported at the time of the collision.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident.

Highway 7 was closed between County 50 and County Road 30, according to police reports, with closures which were expected to remain in place for several hours while members trained in collision reconstruction measure and document the scene.
